The idea of forming an alternative Post Office Worker Union for all employees at regional post offices came through informal discussions around early 2008. On the 8th August 2008 in Kwaggasrand (Pretoria) a decision was taken that we start a formal registration process of SAPAWU with the Department of Labour.
The Scope of our Union:
1. The union is recruiting and has members in the Postal and Courier Industry. SAPWU main focus has been to establish itself in the Postal Industry, specifically the post office.
2. The second phase of The South African Postal Allied Workers Union total onslaught is to capture and consolidate the members in the Courier Industry.
